Weekly Holiday Allowance Calculator: Check Your Pay in 5 Minutes
What Is Weekly Holiday Allowance (주휴수당)?
Weekly holiday allowance (주휴수당) is one day's paid wage given to workers who have worked all of their scheduled workdays in a given week. Article 55 of the Labor Standards Act (근로기준법 제55조) states: "An employer shall guarantee a worker at least one paid holiday per week on average," and the wage paid for that paid holiday is the weekly holiday allowance.
This applies not only to full-time employees but equally to part-time and short-hour workers (단시간 근로자) who meet the requirements. An employer who fails to pay the weekly holiday allowance may be subject to imprisonment of up to 2 years or a fine of up to KRW 20 million under Article 110 of the Labor Standards Act (근로기준법 제110조).
Note for foreign workers: Your employment contract may specify terms different from the statutory minimum, but the statutory entitlement always applies as a floor.
3 Requirements to Receive Weekly Holiday Allowance
All three of the following conditions must be met to receive the weekly holiday allowance.
- Scheduled working hours for the week must be 15 hours or more.
- You must have attended all scheduled workdays for that week.
- Work must be scheduled to continue the following week.
Regarding the third requirement, the Ministry of Employment and Labor's administrative interpretation (근로기준정책과-2886, 2018) holds that "weekly holiday allowance is generated if the worker attends all scheduled workdays even in the final week of employment," meaning you can claim the allowance if you were fully present in the week immediately before resignation.
Weekly Holiday Allowance Calculation Formula
The formula for calculating weekly holiday allowance is as follows:
Weekly Holiday Allowance = (Weekly Scheduled Hours ÷ 40 hours) × 8 hours × Hourly Wage
For example, for a worker earning KRW 10,030 per hour (based on the 2026 minimum wage) and working 20 hours per week:
- (20 ÷ 40) × 8 × 10,030 = KRW 40,120
For workers working 40 hours or more per week, the allowance is capped at 8 hours' worth of wages. In other words, even if you work more than 40 hours per week, the weekly holiday allowance is fixed at 8 hours.
Frequently Confused Cases
Q. Can I still receive weekly holiday allowance if I was late or left early?
If you actually showed up on each scheduled workday, it counts as full attendance. Being late or leaving early is not an absence, so it does not affect eligibility for weekly holiday allowance.
Q. What if I work fewer than 15 hours per week?
Ultra-short-hour workers (초단시간 근로자) whose scheduled working hours are less than 15 hours per week are excluded from weekly holiday allowance under Article 18, Paragraph 3 of the Labor Standards Act (근로기준법 제18조 제3항).
Q. Do monthly-salaried workers need to receive weekly holiday allowance separately?
For monthly-salaried workers, the weekly holiday allowance is generally included in the monthly salary. However, if it is not specified in the employment contract or is omitted when calculating the minimum wage, this can become a problem, so it is worth checking.
