Korea 4 Major Insurances Calculator: How Much Is Deducted from Your Paycheck?
How Much Is Deducted from Your Paycheck for the 4 Major Insurances?
Every month when you receive your pay stub, a series of unfamiliar figures appear under "deductions": National Pension (국민연금), Health Insurance (건강보험), Long-Term Care Insurance (장기요양보험), and Employment Insurance (고용보험) — collectively known as the 4 major insurances (4대보험). This article summarizes the 2026 rates and calculation methods for each insurance, and explains how to quickly check your take-home pay (실수령액).
Note: Your employment contract may specify different arrangements, but the statutory minimums described here apply to all eligible workers.
2026 Employee Share of 4 Major Insurance Rates at a Glance
| Item | Total Rate | Employee Share |
|---|---|---|
| National Pension | 9.5% | 4.75% |
| Health Insurance | 7.19% | 3.595% |
| Long-Term Care Insurance | Approx. 13.14% of health insurance premium | Half (employee share) |
| Employment Insurance (unemployment benefit portion) | 1.8% | 0.9% |
| Industrial Accident Insurance | Varies by industry | 0% (employer pays in full) |
Industrial Accident Insurance (산재보험) is not deducted from the employee's pay at all. In practice, the items actually deducted from your monthly salary are the three listed above (National Pension, Health Insurance + Long-Term Care Insurance, and Employment Insurance), excluding Industrial Accident Insurance.
How Are the Actual Deductions Calculated?
Let's use a monthly salary of 3,000,000 KRW as an example.
- National Pension: 3,000,000 × 4.75% = 142,500 KRW
- Health Insurance: 3,000,000 × 3.595% = 107,850 KRW
- Long-Term Care Insurance: 107,850 × approx. 13.14% ≒ 14,171 KRW (linked to the health insurance premium)
- Employment Insurance: 3,000,000 × 0.9% = 27,000 KRW
Total deduction: approximately 291,521 KRW. Adding income tax and local income tax on top of this will reduce your take-home pay further.
The upper limit of the standard monthly income for National Pension (2026.7–2027.6) is 6,590,000 KRW. Even if your salary exceeds 6,590,000 KRW, the premium is calculated based on 6,590,000 KRW, so high earners effectively pay a lower effective rate.
Common Mistakes When Calculating 4 Major Insurance Deductions
① Forgetting Long-Term Care Insurance
Long-Term Care Insurance is automatically assessed in proportion to your Health Insurance premium. If you calculate only the Health Insurance premium and omit Long-Term Care Insurance, you will underestimate your actual deductions.
② Including Non-Taxable Items in the Salary Base
Non-taxable items such as meal allowances (up to 200,000 KRW per month) and vehicle maintenance allowances are excluded from the salary base used to calculate 4 major insurance premiums. The larger your non-taxable allowances, the lower your insurance premiums may be.
③ Mistakenly Thinking You Pay the Full Rate
Some people assume the employee pays the entire combined rate (e.g., 9.5% for National Pension). In fact, the employee pays only half (4.75%); the employer pays the other half.
